Mat Flex Program Online

Mat Flex Program Online

The BASI Mat Teacher Training Program provides an ideal foundation for mastering the principles of Pilates. Mat work is accessible, versatile, and affordable—making it an ideal way to introduce the transformative power of Pilates across a wide range of settings. At BASI, we consider Mat work the “crown jewel” of Pilates. Students who complete the Mat Program have the option to advance their education with the BASI Mat and Reformer or the Comprehensive Global Program.

The Mat Flex Program Online follows our Flex format, combining self-paced learning with live virtual instruction. The course is delivered through a blend of pre-recorded online lectures and four interactive virtual modules. Pre-recorded lectures focus on theoretical concepts and are completed independently at your own pace prior to virtual modules. The live virtual modules emphasize discussion, exercise analysis, and guided movement practice, allowing students to deepen their understanding and apply concepts in real time.

All virtual modules are conducted via Zoom. Modules are held on scheduled dates and times. Recordings of modules are not available. To accommodate students worldwide, courses are offered across multiple time zones. The applicable time zone is indicated in the course title (e.g., PST, CET, NZST).

There are no formal prerequisites for enrollment; however, prior Pilates experience is strongly recommended. Students must enroll at least two weeks before the first module. Digital course materials, including the initial set of pre-recorded lectures, are released two weeks prior to the first module, allowing ample time to review the required content before the live sessions. Digital course books are included in the tuition. Upcoming Mat Flex Program Online courses can be found here on our website.

Important note: Attendance at Module 1 is mandatory in order to participate in subsequent modules. Students who are unable to attend Module 1 must wait for the next course offering to enroll.

Students who complete the Mat Flex Program Online will receive the same Mat certificate as students who complete the course in-studio. The requirements for earning the Mat certificate are as follows:
  1. Attend all four virtual modules
  2. View all pre-recorded online lectures in full
  3. Pass all pre-recorded online lecture quizzes
  4. Pass Final Written Exam
  5. Complete 85 Student Hours (more information available here):
    1. 15 Observation
    2. 40 Self-Practice
    3. 30 Teaching
  6. Pass Final Teaching Evaluation and Practical Exam

Final Exams for the Mat Flex Program are conducted online. Students have the option to take the exam live via Zoom on a scheduled date and time or through Self-Recorded Online testing. More information about the final exam process can be found on the Program Requirements and Examination Process page on our website. The Mat Final exam has a fee of $150 USD, due at time of exam enrollment.
